Pleasant Lake Improvement Association Board Meeting July 15, 2004

Members Present: Chairman Sedey, VChairman Markstorm, Treasure Diorio, Sec Peterson, Board members Lundeen, Lundeen, Bishop, Ashwill, CRWDist.Merle Anderson

Milfoil up-date. On June 19th Markstrom, Sedey, Ashwill, & Jerry Truman of the Clearwater Lake Association sampled Pleasant lake for Northern and Eurasion Milfoil. Concentrations were found by the County landing, City fishing dock & by V Lundeens.

These findings were shared with the DNR who came and sampled the lake on June 29th. They were not able to locate any Eurasion milfoil. T Ashwill will furnish the DNR with an electronic map he made while taking samples on the 19th of June and ask them to revisit the lake. There is no treatment for the Northern Milfoil plant. The DNR controls the amount of herbicides used to treat Eurasion Milfoil because it does kill other plants as well. Only a percent of any milfoil found can be killed. Any weed treatment program we find necessary will cost money and sources can be assessing all lake property owners through a charge or a tax. Grant money can also be sought and the Clearwater River Watershed Dist will help us with this project. The Watershed will manage any treatment program and the State must approve of any program we propose. All programs run for 5 years allowing 20 percent of all moneys to be spent per year. A three month waiting period can be expected for any program to be approved. County auditors have deadlines for increased tax assessments and the board will get this date if a plan becomes necessary. We can expect the City and County to participate if Eurasion Milfoil is discovered in our lake. Jerry Truman will be asked to continue guiding us while sampling and planning our weed projects.

Water/Sewer Feasibility Study. City Engineer DeWolf has completed the study and now is working with the Mn Dot study to come up with a realistic figure that will accurately project a cost to property owners for the city to provide water and sewer services for the entire lake. We hope to have the city engineer at the Aug general meeting to answer questions on this topic.

At the Aug meeting new board members will be voted on. Alternates will also be selected.

County Commissioner Heeter, Rep Urdahl, City Engineer DeWolf will be invited to attend the Gen meeting in Aug.

Membership will be informed of the Aug meeting by a mailing and through a notice in the local paper. This meeting will be followed by a picnic provided by the Lake Association.

Thank you to Merle Anderson for coming and sharing his knowledge, experience, and leadership with our board.
