Youth First Board Minutes
August 18, 2008


Call to Order: Chair Paul Manuel called meeting to order at 4:06 PM .  

Members present: Paul Manuel, Jeff Lundquist, Nicole Wilke, Rev. Marilee Benson, Tim Prom, Tracy Reimer, Coordinators Pam Wurm and Mary Barkley Brown.  Scott Kerbaugh was also in attendance until 4:45 PM .

Agenda Approval:  Motion by Marilee, seconded by Tracy , to approve meeting agenda.  Motion carried.

Youth First Community Connection: Jeff reported that there will be a Chamber of Commerce golf outing on Sept. 17.  Marilee reported that there will be a Kiwanis Brat Sale on August 30, with the proceeds to go toward local scholarships.  Jeff reported that the Annandale Quarterback Club has merged into the Cardinal Athletic Foundation.

Secretarys Report: Motion by Tracy , seconded by Nicole, to approve minutes from May 19, 2008 meeting.  Motion carried.

Treasurers Report: Mary presented Carmen Merrills treasurers report.  Thank you to the City of Annandale for their $5,000 contribution and to the Improvement Club for their donation of $31 and craft supplies for Camp Eastview .  A motion was made by Jeff, seconded by Marilee, to accept the treasurers report and recognize the donations.  Motion carried. 

Reports:

Youth First: Pam and Mary reported on Youth First.  Reports will be sent by mail to members not in attendance. 

WCFSC: A decision was made by the local county partners to continue the time study for the 2008-09 school year.

Old Business: None

New Business:

New Youth First Board Members: A motion was made by Marilee, seconded by Nicole, to accept new members Marlene Young, Carmen Merrill, Mona Volden and Tim Prom to the Youth First Board of Directors.  The board agreed to start upcoming meetings at 5:00 PM to accommodate two of the new members schedules.  Motion carried.

Officers:  A motion was made by Tracy , seconded by Marilee, to approve Paul Manuel for Chairman, Jeff Lundquist as Vice-Chair and Carmen Merrill as Treasurer.  We still need a Secretary.  Motion carried.

Coordinators Positions:  After considerable discussion the board agreed to continue to employ both coordinators at the same pay level they have been frozen at for the past four years.

Tonic-Sol-Fa Concert:  Nicole reported that the Annandale State Bank and Community Education are sponsoring a Tonic-Sol-Fa Concert at the Annandale High School Auditorium on Thursday, Oct. 23. Any proceeds from the concert will be donated to Annandale Youth First.  Tickets are $15 and are available at Community Ed., Youth First Office, Snooty Fox and the Annandale State Bank.  All Youth First Board Members are encouraged to sell tickets.   All Youth First Board members are asked to help the evening of the concert, with taking tickets, selling Tonic-Sol-Fa merchandise and participating in a Youth First Presentation.  Nicole, Tim and Mary will work on a Youth First video to be shown on the big screen before the concert starts.  Members suggested that Zane Schaefer would be our best speaker in regard to remarks about Youth First.  A suggested theme was Youth First Touched My Life.  We should emphasize that donations are tax-deductible and have donation boxes at the event.  Paul Manuel volunteered to print more brochures if they are needed. 

Agenda Items for Next Meeting: Next meeting will be devoted to planning the Tonic-Sol-Fa Concert.

Next meeting: Sept. 22, 5:00 PM at City Hall.

Motion by Marilee, seconded by Jeff, to adjourn.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 5:15 PM .
