Youth First Monthly Report

Educational Awareness

 

Business Expo: Booth planned for April 12 from 8:00AM 1:00PM.  We will have information available about Youth First.  We will show a Youth First slide show set to music.  If we serve popcorn, it must be popped elsewhere.  There is not enough power for the machine at our booth.  We need help at the booth.  If you are available to take a shift, please see Mary or Pam;

Youth First Brochure:  Working with Nicole to finalize updated brochure for the Expo;

Youth First Website:  Contacted Jill Bishop to update website with photos and donation information;

Youth First Slide Show Set to Music:  Working with Tim Prom to get this ready for Expo;

Annandale Advocate:  Called Advocate regarding story about AMS Food Drive . Advocate came to weigh in at Food Shelf on March 14 and took photo;

          Youth First Room: Open daily from 8:15 to 3:00 p.m.;

Asset Building

AMS Youth Night: St. Johns Lutheran Church helped sponsor roller skating at the Skatin Place on Friday, March 7. 90 students attended (asset: activities during high-risk times);

AMS Food Drive : Held March 10 14.  Organized this middle school event, posters, take-home fliers, sent announcements to the staff and students and redesigned front display case.  Food was collected each morning and the students were updated on which class brought in the most.  $283.75 and over 400 pounds of food were collected (asset: students given useful roles in the community);

Kids Corner at Expo:  Helping Youth As Resources Board with activities and craft ideas at Expo (asset: youth given useful roles in the community);

Community Clean-Up Week:  Will be May 5-9. Contacted all churches, scouts, NHS and school officials regarding Community Clean Up Week.  We will be staining Cardinal Kingdom this year.  Writing grant with NHS for stain and supplies, which have all been ordered (asset; youth given useful roles in the community);

Mystery Service Day:  Will be held Friday, May 9. Talked to Tim Prom about this annual event (asset: youth given useful roles in the community);

 

MADD Crash Car:  Contacted MADD and AHS Principal Scott Kerbaugh regarding crash car the week before AHS Prom.  Also got opinions from Mr. Lipsiea and Mr. Niklaus.  Mr. Kerbaugh will pay for the car with high school funds.  Youth First will order and take care of details (asset: personal responsibility);

Nursing Home:  AMS Art students team-painted wooden Easter eggs for door decorations for the nursing home.  15 AMS students will play games with the residents on March 18 and decorate their doors (asset: youth given useful role in the community);

Cardinal Buddies, After the Bell and Teen Club Parties: End of the year celebrations were held at the Bowling Alley the week of February 25 (assets: another caring relationship in childs life, constructive use of time);

Centennial Villa Bingo: AMS students join senior citizens for intergenerational activity (asset: youth given useful roles in community);

Student of the month: (asset: caring school climate);

          A.M.S. display case: Update with student achievements and current events at AMS (asset: support, caring school climate);

       

Community Connections

Township Meetings:  Letters were given to Corinna Township Board members.  Karen Millner and Mike Zieska spoke at the Corinna Meeting on behalf of Youth First on March 10.  Carmen was contacted to speak to Southside Township .  Youth First will receive $1,500.00 from Corinna;

Literacy Initiative:  Met with school administrators regarding incorporating new reading programs into Youth First Summer Camps.  There will be a book drive to donate books for this;

Kiwanis Moonlight Bowling Fundraiser: for Youth First program, was held Sat., Feb. 23 at 5 PM at Heart of the Lakes Bowling.  Thank you notes were written from Youth First to all 39 silent auction donors and all others that helped with this event;

AMS Volunteer Appreciation: Planned for week of April 21;

Targeted Services:  Met with Rick Pullins, ISD 876 Business Manager, three times to determine funding available through Targeted Services to support after-school and summer programming;

Youth First Budget:  Working out plan for Youth First to continue to remain viable with reduced funding;

Childcare During AMS Conferences:  Provided childcare during AMS Conferences on Feb. 28 and March 3;

Youth As Resources: Attended meeting on March 10.  Helping Mike Studer with grant for project;

Mentoring

Cardinal Boys and Girls Clubs: Letters sent to 4th grade students who were identified for Cardinal Buddies for springtime after-school program to be held at AMS beginning April 7;

Cardinal Buddies; Last day was Feb. 27. There were 40 high school volunteers and 29 matches this year.  Reports being sent for Targeted Services for funding;

After the Bell /Teen Club: After-school programs for identified AMS students ended Feb.26. 36 students in grades 5-8 attended. Reports being sent to Targeted Services for funding;
