Youth First Monthly Report
August 18, 2008


 Educational Awareness

Open House at Middle School: Will be held Wednesday, August 27, from 4:30 6:30 PM .  We are planning Youth First and AMS Volunteer tables.  Volunteers will be called to help with this event;

Thank You Note: Sent to Annandale Improvement Club for Camp Eastview funding this year.  Follow-up letters, with photos, a report on participation and the Youth First Annual Report will be sent.  Thank you gift cards and notes were given to all student volunteers and Danny Carlson for his help, also;
           Youth First Activity Dates
: are in the 2008 2009 school calendar;

City of Annandale :  Received donation of $5,000.00 from the City of Annandale , July 8, 2008 ;

Asset Building

Reading and Arts in the Park:  Administered free reading and arts program for students in Annandale this summer.  Fliers were sent home with each Bendix student.  Guest readers read stories each week.  This was held on Mondays, June 9 July 28, at Eastview Mobile Home Park.  This was held in cooperation with the WCFSC and Targeted Services;  

Youth As Resources (YAR):  Mary attended their summer meeting.  YAR is a board that grants monies to local youth groups for projects.  The funding is a grant through the Initiative Foundation.  (Assets: youth given useful roles in community, community values youth, other adult role models);

Centennial Villa Bingo: Camp Eastview students join Pam or Mary at Bingo with senior citizens on Wednesdays (Assets: youth given useful roles in community, other adult relationships, caring school climate, community service, adult role models, youth programs, values, positive identity, sense of purpose);

Community Connections

AMS Volunteers: Forms for new volunteers were mailed to parents in middle school back-to-school mailing;

            Wright County Family Services Collaborative (WCFSC) Meeting: Attending August 19 meeting.  No July meeting was held.  The time study will continue for 2008-09;

Quarterly Report: will be submitted to WCFSC;  

Morgan Family: Final narrative report and final financial accounting report sent in July, per grant agreement;

Targeted Services Report: will file with Bendix and AMS for Targeted Services funding for Arts and Reading in the Park, Camp Eastview , and Girls Club;

Sent thank you notes to most volunteers;

Mentoring

Girls' Club: Met once a month in June, July and Aug.  Fifth grade girls participated in this club.

Camp Eastview : held three days/week in July. Camp included story time, arts and crafts, sports, circle time, large group game, treasure chest and snack time.  51 students attended, with an average daily attendance of 24 students;  

Centennial Villa Bingo: Youth from Eastview Mobile Home Park joined Pam or Mary to call Bingo at Centennial Villa on Wednesday afternoons this summer;

Elm Grove and Knollwood Apartments: Reading once a week during August in cooperation with Sally Smith and a grant from the local library for books;
