Youth First Monthly Report
September 22, 2008


Educational Awareness

Tonic Sol-Fa Concert: Working with Dan Zahler on buttons or stickers with the theme Youth First Touched My Life.  Checked into Youth First shirts with logo embroidered for board members to wear.  Helped to hang posters and sell tickets.  Working on video and volunteers to help at the event;

AMS Open House: Promotional booths set up for Youth First, Volunteering, AMS Parent Advisory, Tonic-Sol-Fa tickets, Box Tops for Education and milk caps.  Found volunteers to help at various locations; 

 Youth First Annual Report:  Completed annual report to send to all donors.  Also printed photo collage from summer programs to send with thank you letter and annual report;

 

Youth First Room: open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ;

Asset Building

Youth Night: will be sponsored by United Methodist on November 21. Trip is planned to Skatin Place . Will contact all churches in Annandale , advertised with posters, announcements and take-home fliers for each student (Assets: community values youth, adult role models);

Homecoming Pep Rally: Helping to organize pep rally for AMS and Bendix students on Friday, Sept. 26, from 7:45 8:05 AM at AMS and 8:15 at Bendix.  Talked to pep band director, athletic director, coaches, cheerleaders and players (Asset: school engagement);

New Student Welcome: Helped with meeting and will make new student sign.  This is a chance for new students to get to know student council members, staff and other new students (Assets: community values youth, school engagement);

Boxtops for Education: Pizza party will be held for Kandice Compton and 7 friends. Kandice was the student that collected the most Boxtops and milkcaps over the summer, for the second year in a row (Asset: school engagement);

Centennial Villa Bingo: High School students join Pam or Mary at Bingo with senior citizens on Wednesdays.  (Assets: youth given useful roles in community, other adult relationships, caring school climate, community service, adult role models, youth programs, values, positive identity, sense of purpose);

 

A.M.S. display case and bulletin boards: updated with student achievements and current events at A.M.S. (assets: support, caring school climate, bonding to school, community values youth, high expectations, achievement motivation, school engagement, positive identity);

Community Connections

            AMS Volunteers:  Contacted each AMS volunteer at start of school year;

            AMS Parent Advisory: Planning teacher appreciation meals at AMS October 13, the first night of conferences;

 

WCFSC:  Attended Governance Board meeting Sept. 16. Mary is now the vice-chair of this organization;

 

            School supplies: Donations from St. Johns congregation were made to all three schools.  Thank you note sent to St. Johns ;

Mentoring

                        GirlsClub: Last meeting in August;

After the Bell/Teen Club: begins in November;

 

Cardinal Buddies: begins December 3. An announcement was given to the HNS students to remind them to consider becoming a big buddymore to follow.
