Youth First Monthly Report
(For Months of October and November)

Educational Awareness

 Tonic Sol Fa Concert Oct. 23: Worked with Tim Prom to produce informative Youth First slide show for the Concert.  Zane gave an informational introduction about Youth First.  Sign and Youth First Touched My Life buttons were donated by Zahler Photography.  Updated Youth First brochure.  Paul printed the new brochures.  The printing was donated by Annandale State Bank;

Youth First Room: Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ;

Asset Building

Cardinal Buddies Training and Informational Meetings: Held on Oct. 24 and Nov. 14.  Approximately 28 students are interested in serving as Big Buddies.  We continue to recruit more students (Assets: community values youth, youth given useful roles in the community, student has relationship with three or more non-parent adults);

Youth Nights: St. Johns Lutheran Church sponsored a party at the Monticello Community Center on Friday, Oct. 24.  98 middle school students enjoyed swimming, basketball and refreshments. The Annandale United Methodist Church will sponsor Roller Skating at Skatin Place on Nov. 21.  Coordinated events, announcements, posters, busses, sign-up and financial (Assets: structured use of time, caring school climate, other adult relationships);

AMS and Bendix Pep Fest: was held September 30.  Helped coordinate band, cheerleaders, royalty and captains of sports teams for pep fest on Homecoming.  Took photos of event and created bulletin board for AMS (Asset: school engagement);

 

Centennial Villa Bingo: Students join Pam or Mary at Bingo with senior citizens on Wednesdays  (Assets: youth given useful roles in community, other adult relationships, caring school climate, community service, adult role models, youth programs, values, positive identity, sense of purpose);

 

After the Bell/Teen Club: Pam Wurm is supervising these after-school programs at AMS for identified students in grades 5-8.  Clubs started on Nov. 10.  There are 22 students participating at this time.  Funding and Pams wage comes from a Targeted Services Grant through the school district (Assets: caring school climate, other adult role models,

constructive use of time, creative activities, reading for pleasure, bonding to school, community service, youth given useful role in community, youth programs, positive identity);

 

Box Tops for Education: Sent in submission to General Mills in October, 2008.  Competition between classrooms each quarter; winning class party will be held Nov. 26 for Ms. Laskes class (Assets: community values youth, community service, caring school climate, bonding to school);

 

AMS New Family Phone Calls: Called parents of all new students at AMS, welcomed them and asked if they or their students had questions or concerns regarding school.  Also reminded parents of upcoming conferences and AMS events;

 

Visit Your School Day: Was held Oct. 10. Helped with posters and volunteers (Assets: bonding to school, community values youth, parents involved in school);

 

Student of the Month Party: Held bi-monthly to celebrate four students per grade that are good role models. (Assets: caring school climate, community values youth);

 

A.M.S. display case: Updated with student achievements and current events at A.M.S. (Assets: support, caring school climate, bonding to school, community values youth, high expectations, achievement motivation, school engagement, positive identity);

Community Connections

Pioneer Park Halloween:  Loaned Youth First Halloween/ haunted house props to group running Fall Party at Pioneer Park ;

 

AMS visitor desk: is a proactive step to improve school security.  Volunteers greet all visitors to the building during school hours;

WCFSC Finance Committee Meeting: Attended Oct. 28 meeting;

 

Quarterly Report: Sent quarterly report to WCFSC in November, 2008, according to terms of grant agreement;

 

AMS Parent Advisory: Organized AMS Advisory sponsored Teacher Appreciation Meal on Monday, Oct. 13;

 

Free Childcare at AMS Conferences: Organized, recruited student volunteers, advertised and supervised childcare during AMS Conferences Oct. 13 and 14;

 

Middle School Concessions:  Contacted Jude Vending and Bernicks Bottling.  Deposits are made every two weeks or so to Youth First;

 

Youth First Annual Audit:  Tara Partridge did our audit, on a volunteer basis again this year.  Thank you letter was sent to Tara ;
