Painting Credit:  "Bass out of Water"

by Ada Dawson

Acrylic on wood, 8" x 10"
1995

Dawson is an accomplished artist, art instructor, writer, and sign painter who has lived in Annandale area since 1960.  Her commissioned art hangs in private collections throughout the United States.  Dawson has had her poetry and prose published.  She continues to paint commissioned work and has developed a line of wildlife and religious note cards.  Her angel cards were chosen with 11 others to grace the cover of the December, 2000, issue of The North Light Book Catalog.

The artist's son, Ollie, encouraged her to do a series of nature pictures.  She enjoyed the uniqueness of making this particular painting on wood so that the grain shows through.  Other pieces in the series include a deer, a pheasant, a cougar, a loon, a wood duck, and a wolf.

The artist says:  "Growing up in rural areas I enjoyed seeing old barns, houses, grain elevators, and shops.  Seeing the buildings deteriorating from the elements of nature, I think of them fulfilling their many years of usefulness.  It inspires me to transfer my interpretations of these scenes to paper or canvas to share with others."
