Treasurers report:
Denise Froehlich reports account to be $4,744.00. City and County both
will be contributing $1,000 again this year for the weed control program.
The DNR lake-wide $750 permit has been paid.
Curly-leaf control program:
John Sedey gave history of the 2 year program with a map showing the
areas treated at the association cost. This
year the program will again address weed control and encourage property owners
to treat the shorelines. The normal $35
permit will not be required if homeowners
sign-up with the association.
Lake Restoration Inc. Rep
Tom Snook explained to the membership what his company has done in the past and
hopes to accomplish over the next few years on Pleasant Lake. Professional
treatment of lake-weeds can assure property owners of safe and appropriate
dosages. Self chemical treatment of weeds along shorelines will fall under the
lake-wide permit however individuals will have to contact the DNR for
inspection.
Water Patrol:
Dennis Arfsten has visited with Deputy Joel Mackereth of Wright County
Sheriffs Office and will be the contact for any new volunteers or programs
relating to safety on the lake.
Loon Habitat:
Dave Hogberg will inspect the west end nest and hopes to build an
additional platform for the east end this summer.
Water Quality:
Jim Peterson explained the Secchi
disc program and Steve Beckman volunteered to become an additional
monitor. He will receive his needed
tools and materials from Merle Anderson. John
Sedey takes water samples along with his secchi disc readings.
All info on water quality goes to the MPCA.
Membership:
Julie Sedey reported that we have 75 paid-up members out of a possible
125. Julie will work with Denise F.
and hopes to distribute a membership directory to
all members via e-mail in the near future. If
members do not have e-mail addresses copies will be provided upon request.
Clearwater River Watershed
District rep. Merle Anderson reviewed district programs addressing area lakes.
Impaired waters, total maximum daily loads, rough fish, and shoreline
buffers were just a sample of the topics included in the CRWD newsletter,
March 2008 issue. John Sedey
presently serves on the advisory board of the CRWD.
Merle suggested that we look into securing signs for our landings
reminding people coming and going to check for weeds that could be transported
unknowingly. Carp Busters is a group
of bow hunters who hunt carp from jon-boats at night with DNR permits.
This could be of interest to us in the future if we notice an increase in
the rough fish population. Mn. Waters
Assoc. Membership for the future discussed.
Hwy 24:
Merle Anderson gave a brief history of the road improvement and attention
it required to have minimal effect on the lake. Culverts and
road crowns continue to be of concerns and will be monitored.
Lake level is set by the DNR & administered by CRWD.
Social Committee:
Dean and Bonnie Hoglund will be in charge of the 4th of July
boat parade again this year. The parade was well attended & enjoyed by many
last year. They will announce the
day and time as soon as they coordinate it with the city.
Newsletter-communication
committee: Chair Bayer will work
with this committee and asks for volunteers.
Next general membership
meeting will be August 23, Saturday - Picnic
