Minutes - May 29, 2010

Pleasant Lake Association General meeting  May 29, 2010, 10 a.m.

Officers present:   Chair Bayer, Vice Chair Sedey, Secretary Peterson, Directors Hogberg, Warner, Froehlich

Officers not present:  Treasurer Arfsten, Director Lundeen

Association Board met prior to the general meeting at 9 a.m. this date.

Secretary Report:  Minutes of last general meeting held Aug 30, 1009 read and approved.

Treasurer Report:  Balance of $6,781.   Outstanding bills of $6,000 to Lake Restoration & $750 for DNR permit for chemical treatment.

Membership:   At present 54 home owners have joined the association.   We are missing 32 owners who have been members in the past.  Because of the dues notifications being  sent by regular and by e-mail along with the time difference of mailing it was decided that those not responding will be mailed by regular mail a 2nd notice.  Membership notifications will all be mailed  by regular mail in December to avoid any delay or confusion in the future by membership chairperson Julie Sedey.  $1,200 has been received along with the dues as donations to help with the weed treatment program.

Water Patrol:  Dennis Arfsten will be the coordinator with the Wright County Sheriffs Office.  Volunteers are needed and should contact Dennis for more information.  At present we have 5 volunteers who put in an average of 30 hours each yearly.

News Letter:   Director Warner will assemble the next letter and will shoot for an August delivery date to all lake residence. News items along with pictures, when possible,  should be forwarded to Gloria.

Board members:   Term expiration of board members will be addressed at the August general meeting.  Chairman Bayer may appoint  a new member to replace Kermit.

Parade:  The 4th of July Celebration boat parade will be held on July 3rd at 7 p.m. Please contact Bonnie or Dean Hoglund for specifics.

Loon nests:   Dave and Penny Hogberg are planning on adding an additional loon raft to be placed at the east end of the lake.  The existing raft maintenance will be conducted when nesting season is over.

Secchi and Water Quality:   Sedey and Peterson gave reports as to clarity and water testing completed during the summer months.  The lake web site  contains history of reports over the past years.   Water temp hit 69 degrees this past week.

Legacy money:   Money should be available in the near future for lake projects.  It will be necessary for our lake to be mapped by a professional aquatic service in order to be eligible for such moneys.   We hope to know by July what our cost might be and we can then decide at our next general meeting if we wish to spend the money.

Curly Leaf Treatment Program:  Lake Restoration has treated the lake for curly leaf.  Approx 5 acres by the county park & 7 acres on the west end.  The DNR would not allow the treatment to be completed with the stronger strength chemical this year.  The bill was not to exceed $6,000.  Some confusion occurred among the individuals who treat individual property sites.  The association paid for a lake wide permit yet some owners were billed by Lake Restoration.   This matter has been cleared up.  Any questions should be directed to Chairman Bayer.

New member:   Tony Boie was introduced.  She and Dave live on the north side of the lake and would like to help the association in future ventures.

Fund raiser:   D Froehlich will chair the concessions area for the Triathlon set for July 18. Volunteers are needed. Please contact Denise Froehlich.

Neighbor Watch ideas discussed.  Break-ins and thefts over the winter months were discussed with ideas suggested for future.  Police Chief Herr at our last meeting pointed out that watching out for our neighbors is the best way to curb these activities.
