Senior Companies make a big difference in many lives. They help frail
elderly remain independent in their own homes and relieve loneliness.
They assist clients with errands, and transportation needs. They
provided needed respite to primary caregivers and they form meaningful
friendships.
Senior Companions benefit, too! There's the satisfaction of helping
others while adding new meaning to retirement years. Plus, volunteers
receive a small non-taxable stipend, transportation reimbursement and a daily
meal allowance. Opportunities are available for individuals that are 60
years and older if you are willing to volunteer at least 10 to 20 hours a
week, doing what a friend would do for a friend.
Last year the Wright County Senior Companions donated 2,162 hours to our
community. Presently, Wright County Human Services is looking for more
senior companions to visit other senior citizens.
The Senior Companions program is part of the Senior Service Corps of Minnesota.
